Jami knows the saving, integrating power of Jesus Christ, personally. That is why he preaches. There is nothing too ugly or mixed up for Christ to heal. He believes it, teaches it and shapes the congregation according to it.
Jami was born in Elkhart Indiana, in 1961, the last of 4 children, baptized into Christ, April 23rd of that same year. He is the father of 4 children, all now adults. He graduated from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa in 1984, and from Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, 1988. He was ordained as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1989. He has served congregations in Stanton, ND, Stanwood, WA, and now at Gift of Grace, Seattle, since 1996.
Jami says, "My singular mission is to invest my whole self in lifting up Christ for my neighbors, inviting them more deeply into the life of God. I am not successful at this because I am easily distracted by other, lesser things. Nevertheless, God has called me to it and I want to do it. As Luther says, 'I neither know nor want any God but Christ.'” The main theologians who have influenced Jami are Martin Luther, Soren Kierkegaard (through the teaching of Pastor Ronald Marshall), Wolfhart Pannenberg, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Duane Priebe of Wartburg Seminary.
